Offering a Reward
The other day I was on a very nice shopping trip that included a visit to Anthropologie. In Anthropologie there was a great song playing, a really great song and I didn't know what it was. Now all I can remember is the lyrics "ai, ai, ai..." If you can tell me what this song is called I will give you $2. I think originally it was sung by a man, however this version was done by both a man and a woman. I think at the beginning it may say something about a boy maybe at a train track or a garbage dump or something sort of pathetic. I know, very vague. But maybe you know exactly what I am talking about, or maybe you can figure it out. Let me know.

My only guesses are:
Billy Joel "Uptown Girl"
Billy Joe Royal "Down in the Boondocks"
If I think of something else I'll let you know. I need those two dollars.
It was much slower tempo than either of those.
I love how vague this is.
Vague to be sure, but specific enough to rule out any of the songs I'm thinking about. I really hope you figure this out. Not figuring these kinds of things out drives me batty.
Have you thought of going to Anthropologie and asking what music they play? Often, retail stores will have a CD sent to them from their corporate office or a list of songs to play. Give it a shot.
Michelle and I were reading blogs together today; and she had an idea that we both think is a long shot, but we are determined to leave no stone unturned.
Paul Simon's "The Boxer" features a young boy, a railway station, and the chorus "ly la ly." There have been scads of covers of this song.
